Texas. This is hilarious!
This accident happened in the Dallas -Ft. Worth area and you must listen
to it. It is a phone call from a man who witnesses a car accident
involving four elderly women. It was so popular when they played it
on CHUM FM that they had to put it on their website. Play |
| The
HGV Driver
shortage |
Reasons?
Long hours, bad practices, bad management, bad treatment?
The working environment is different to most jobs.
Drivers are harassed by police, customs, ministry, public, etc.
And now, with the advent of speed cameras, subject to policing by bureaucrats.
And any idiot that
thinks he, or she, is a driver.
Drivers are often treated as glorified labourers.
Drivers have to contend with numerous petty and bureaucratic EU rules
and regulations.
The HGV driving course does not prepare a new Driver for
reversing in the real world:
Many unloading points, bays, etc., were laid out a long time ago,
for smaller vehicles.
Fortunately, some older Drivers will see, recognise, and help
a new Driver having problems.
But many others will not.
There are so many areas where a new Driver can become discouraged,
it is little wonder that so many leave the industry.

Why
the great dependence upon Agency Drivers?
|
Employing
anyone, in this country, is a major and risky undertaking.
The obligations it entails can cut into profits.
At Board Room level, logistics are a necessary evil: Any savings are
attractive.
Using agency drivers is far less risky.
And means that they can still afford a new Rolls every year.
|
| The
job has changed. |
Drivers nowadays, have to be better educated.
And know about all the numerous rules and regulations dictated to us.
This fact in itself warrants a substantial increase in pay.

Driver's Letters
Are today's lorry drivers pussys?
To anyone returning to driving, after a long absence, the crap drivers are
now accepting beggars belief.
But it's all dictated, there were no driver consultations, union things, etc.
The most worrying thing about all this, is that
many young people today actually believe that we still
live in a free and democratic society.
Whilst we, of the older generations, have witnessed the demise of freedom
and democracy in this country.
Our system is based upon us trusting politicians.
Yet the poor turnout, in the last general election, was publicly attributed
to lack of trust in politicians.
Well look at what they do:
The Holocaust removed from school curriculums
as it offended Muslims. More..

| The Transport
Manager - R.I.P. |
 |
Have you noticed how all those
little things, that could make life easier, particularly
for new Drivers, are never done.
Or where a little thought could make life easier for a lot of us lesser
mortals.
i.e: Bad bay or depot layout, bad
practices, whatever.
Is this because the Transport Manager, as we may have known that animal,
and who might well have attended to such things year ago, is now extinct
?
Is not the modern version simply an interface between the HGV Driver,
in the logistics network itself, and the controlling computer network
?

| Why HGV City
? |
Commercial vehicles are regulated
by weight: HEAVY Goods Vehicles
NOT by size as one would expect if using LGV, (LARGE
Goods Vehicles).
The term 'LGV' is ridiculous and totally inappropriate.
It is a term, however, that has been dictated to us. - We had no say in the matter. |
